Ohio Gratings Inc. is a full-line grating manufacturer in Northeast Ohio. OGI operates in 312,000 square feet of space and participates in all facets of the grating industry.
Previously, Security Cameras of Columbus had installed 75+ 4MP Uniview IP cameras at the three large manufacturing buildings on OGI’s Campus.
Since then, OGI began an over $7 million project to expand a building and install a new high-tech manufacturing machine. This new machine would save them thousands of dollars every day in manufacturing expenses. The machine is over 150 ft long, 50 ft wide, and 30 ft tall at places.
Problem: Because the machine is so big, the machine operators couldn’t always see what was happening as the product moved through the machine. It was decided that high quality security cameras strategically placed could provide a much-needed visual aid to these machine operators.
Solution: The IT manager at OGI contacted Security Cameras of Columbus to discuss potential solutions. A SCC salesperson promptly met with OGI staff on site in Canton, Ohio. Together, they decided that the Uniview 4MP Vandal-Proof Dome Camera would be the best fit for the job because of its high-quality image, high-impact resistant glass, and resistance to heat (up to 140° F). They also determined what the best locations would be for each camera. After that a date was selected for the install.
The install team arrived on the scheduled date and began by double checking where the OGI staff wanted each camera. Then Cat5e cable was pulled to each camera location from an IT room nearby. Once all the cable was in place, Security Cameras of Columbus Technicians worked with OGI staff to build custom mounts for each camera, ensuring the best camera angle possible. The mounts were welded to the machine, and the cameras attached to the mounts.
Once every camera was installed, SCC Techs worked with OGI management to ensure that each camera was adjusted as needed, and to set up remote viewing from the managements’ laptop computers. Monitors will be installed for the machine operators. These monitors will allow the operators to see exactly what is happening as the product moves through the machine.
